Hyundai Kona Electric – electric version of the compact crossover Hyundai Kona. World debut electric car was held in March 2018 at the Geneva Motor Show. 

The electric car "Kona Electric" is slightly larger than the car of the same name with internal combustion engines. The body length of the electric crossover is 4,180 mm (15 mm more than the regular Hyundai Kona), width is 1,800 mm, height is 1,570 mm (+20 mm relative to the original model), and the wheelbase is 2,600 mm (unchanged). The characteristic features of the electric model are the original false radiator grille, under which the charger port is hidden, as well as aerodynamically calibrated wheels and new bumpers with deflectors.

7 colors have been added to the body palette of the electric crossover (including the Galactic Gray color specially developed for this model). Combined with 3 roof shades, they create 21 color combinations.

Inside, Kona Electric received a two-level central tunnel. On the first level there is a box for “small things”, and at the top there is a push-button control panel for the transmission and cup holders. A multimedia system tablet with an 8-inch display rises in the center of the front panel, a 7-inch display is installed instead of the arrow “tidy”, and paddles are used to change the settings of the energy recovery system.

The ambitions of a serious off-road conqueror are out of the question in the case of the Kona electric SUV, because it can only be front-wheel drive. But the Koreans immediately offered two modifications: basic and with an increased power reserve. They differ in the capacity of the traction battery (39.2 and 64 kWh), engine performance and acceleration dynamics. In the first case, the range in the WLTP test cycle is 289 km, and in the second it is increased to 449 km.

A full charge of the basic version from a conventional AC wall charger takes 6 hours and 10 minutes, and from a 100-kilowatt DC "express station" 80% of the charge can be replenished in 54 minutes. In the Long range version, the restoration of the energy reserve in slow mode takes 9 hours and 40 minutes, while fast charging to 80% lasts 54 minutes.

At the front, the Konda Electric has a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor. The basic version uses a 136 hp unit, and the Long range modification uses a 204 hp output. At the same time, they have the same torque - 395 Nm. Acceleration 0-100 km / h takes 9.7 seconds for the less powerful version and 7.6 seconds for the top one. The maximum speed is 155 km / h for the 136-horsepower modification and 167 km / h for the 204-horsepower.

The list of Hyundai Kona Electric options includes a head-up display, a Krell audio system, a wireless charging port for a smartphone, 8-way power front seats, a driver's seat with memory settings and a set of security systems. Hyundai Smart Sense. The latter combines intelligent cruise control with Stop & Go function, front collision avoidance system with pedestrian detection function, lane departure warning system, blind spot detection system, driver fatigue monitoring system and others.

Production of the Kona Electric electric crossover was launched at the Hyundai plant in Ulsan (South Korea) in the spring of 2018. The start of official sales in Ukraine is the end of April 2019.
