Hyundai Kona — compact crossover class B-SUV. Introduced summer 2017. There is also a hybrid of the same name and an all-electric version of this model called hyundai Kona Electric, however, this page will focus exclusively on vehicles with internal combustion engines.

The Kona has become Hyundai's first global model in the compact SUV class and is sold in South Korea, North America and Europe. Kona was built on a new platform for compact crossovers, which is also used in the five-door Kia Stonic. The power structure of the car body by 51.8% consists of high-strength steel grades with programmed deformation zones. The front suspension is with classic McPherson struts, while the rear suspension differs depending on the type of transmission. By analogy with Hyundai Creta  front-wheel drive cars have a torsion beam at the rear, and all-wheel drive cars have a multi-link.

The clearance of Hyundai Kona declared by the manufacturer is 170 mm, and the trunk volume is 361 liters. For comparison, similar in size Nissan Juke the trunk holds 354 liters.

The Hyundai Kona is characterized by short overhangs, a signature hexagonal grille “Cascading Grille”, multi-level front optics (daytime running lights on top, headlights on the “intermediate” level, fog lights on the bottom), developed sidewalls and a sculptural belt line. In addition, the creators of Kona supported the fashion for a two-tone body design, and in the cabin, depending on the configuration, various colored inserts, seat stitching and even red or green seat belts can be used (although no one has canceled the traditional black belts).

Engines and gearboxes are installed as follows:

• 2.0-liter "aspirated" with a capacity of 149 hp and a maximum torque of 179 Nm is combined with a 6-speed "automatic". From 0 to 100 km / h, such a Hyundai Kona accelerates in 10 seconds;
• 1.6-liter Gamma series turbo engine (177 hp, 265 Nm) in combination with a seven-speed "robot" (7DCT). Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 7.7 seconds;
• 1.0-liter "turbo engine" with a capacity of 120 hp and a torque of 172 Nm is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. Acceleration 0-100 km / h for such a Hyundai Kona takes 12 seconds;
• 1.6-liter CRDi turbodiesel with 115 hp and 280 Nm is paired with a 6-speed "mechanics". Acceleration 0-100 km/h in 10.7 seconds. And a similar motor in a modification of 136 hp. and 320 Nm combined with a 7-speed "robot" DCT.

By default, Hyundai Kona cars are front-wheel drive, but modifications with 1.6 T-GDI (177 hp) and 1.6 CRDi (136 hp) engines are also available with all-wheel drive. The gearbox for all-wheel drive versions is the uncontested “robot” 7DCT.

In Ukraine, Hyundai Kona is presented in four trim levels. The starting Express version is equipped with active safety systems (ABS, ESC, DBC, HAC), 6 airbags, 16" alloy wheels, climate control, windshield anti-fog system, cruise control, heated front seats and steering wheel, front fog lights, leather-trimmed steering wheel and gearshift lever, power and heated side mirrors, roof rails, rain and light sensors, Bluetooth support and other options.

The Dynamic package, which is equipped with a 1.6 liter turbo engine with 177 hp, in addition to the equipment available in the Express version, there are a multimedia system with a 7" touch screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, a SuperVision dashboard, a rear view camera, highline tire pressure sensor and instead of 16-inch wheels, 17-inch wheels are installed.

In the Elegance version, in addition to the equipment available in the Dynamic package, there is an autonomous emergency braking system and a lane keeping system, adaptive cruise control, Dual LED headlights with cornering light function, engine start button and smart key, rear parking sensors and wireless smartphone charging.

In the maximum configuration Top, in addition to the equipment available in the Elegance version, there is an electric driver's seat, a multimedia complex with an 8" touchscreen monitor and navigation, a Krell sound system, a SuperVision instrument panel with a 4.2" color display, rear LED lights, electric folding side mirrors , front parking aids and other options.

Hyundai Kona is produced at the Hyundai Motor Company plant in South Korea. Petrol Hyundai Kona appeared on the Ukrainian market in November 2019.
